2014
MERRICKS GROVE
Pinot Noir can range in style from delicate, fruity and silky to dark,
brooding and structured. This Pinot belongs to the latter category.
VINEYARD The vineyard is elevated in a maritime coastal area with Westernport
Bay only 4 km to the south, keeping temperatures cool and at times
producing very cold SW and NW winds. Excellent winter and early
spring rainfall filled the soil profile. Weather conditions through
summer were warm. Mild weather through March resulted in steady
ripening.
WINEMAKING This 2014 Merricks Grove Pinot Noir is cross selection from all our blocks
within the Merricks Grove vineyard. Blocks were kept separate during the
winemaking process until final blending pre bottling.
Fruit was harvested and then cold soaked for 3 days. Ferments on skins
were plunged every 4 - 8 hours in open fermenter. Once pressed (after
7-10 days) the wines were racked to new and old french barrels to
undertake malolactic fermentation and aging.
TASTING NOTE This wine shows aromas of game, dark cherry and spice. On the palate
you will experience hints of raspberry, ripe black cherry, cedar, dark
chocolate and spice with a dash of mint of the finish. Dusty tannins and
excellent length help finish this wine that would suit any dinner party.
